Community Renesas RZ/V2H 80 TOPS AI

Kakip Community

Kakip is Japan's most prominent Japan-made AI single-board computer community, built around the Renesas RZ/V2H platform and its powerful DRP-AI3 NPU capable of up to 80 TOPS (CNN model) of inference performance. Open-EP members are actively involved in the Kakip project, taking ownership of the full BSP development stack — from low-level kernel bring-up and peripheral driver integration all the way to Ubuntu OS optimization. As part of this collaboration, we also introduced native support for the PIXPAPER series, bringing open-source e-paper display capability directly into the Kakip ecosystem.

Future Network Services (FNS)

The University of Amsterdam (UvA), a member of FNS (Future Network Services) — a Dutch public-private 6G consortium comprising 60 companies, knowledge institutes, and government entities — is collaborating with Open-EP on the intersection of edge AI and Vision-Language Models (VLM). Together, we are developing solutions for robotic collaboration — enabling robots to perceive, reason, and interact using state-of-the-art VLM inference running at the edge. The implementation is built on the NXP IMX95 platform, with Open-EP taking responsibility for BSP development — including compliance with the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) — and hands-on performance benchmarking to validate real-world efficiency. Looking ahead, the HMI layer of these systems will integrate the PIXPAPER series, pushing toward a new generation of technology that is simultaneously low-power and high-performance.
